We receive funding from the City of Chico for our services to City of Chico residents, and for many years we have been a United Way agency, receiving funding from that source. We are grateful to a number of organizations and individuals who contribute regularly. Fund raising has become increasingly important, as our costs of delivery increase. On our 30th anniversary of delivering meals, a "$30 a Year Club" was established whereby donors were encouraged to donate a minimum of $30 to help fund our operations, and this has been quite successful.
The need for Chico Meals on Wheels has increased dramatically over the past several years. In 2009, we delivered 26,709 meals, 34% more than just seven years ago (2002 - 19,921 meals). We have continued to expand our service area and added routes and equipment to increase efficiency. We also work with other local agencies, assisting them with meals and access to special diets unavailable in their programs.
